The Mighty Entreq Magneus Supreme - Calming the flow through your cables

The Entreq Magneus Supreme is a semi-passive electromagnetic field transformer designed to calm the EM environment around your power and speaker cables, increasing clarity, space, and the emotional impact to your system.

I f you’ve read my review of the Entreq Protectus + MaxMix T2 kit, you’ll know that Entreq’s approach to hidden noise is unlike anything else in the hi‑fi world. Where the Protectus tackles vagabond currents directly, the Magneus Supreme takes a different path.

This is one of Entreq’s most intriguing designs yet, and its effect on a sensitive system can be profound.

The Entreq Magneus Supreme: Calm for Your Cables

E ntreq has always been about chasing the things we don’t see but always hear. Their philosophy is that the biggest problems in audio aren’t the obvious ones — they’re the subtle disruptions that creep in through the back door. With the Magneus Supreme, they’ve taken that pursuit into the realm of electromagnetic field control.

Where the Protectus + MaxMix T2 kit review showed how vagabond currents could be tamed directly, the Magneus Supreme is about calming the environment itself. Entreq describes power and speaker cables as the “two most exposed points” of a hi‑fi system.

The Magneus Supreme is their answer to this silent disruption. It’s a subtle approach, but one that fits perfectly with Entreq’s philosophy.

What is the Entreq Magneus?

T he Magneus is a semi‑passive electromagnetic field transformer. Inside, eight vertically oriented transformer elements are arranged in a circular formation, creating a chamber that influences the electromagnetic environment around your cable.

The aim is simple: reduce vagabond currents, suppress high‑frequency turbulence, and stabilise the flow of energy.

Some More Understanding

Y es, I too needed more information when I initially looked into this strange-looking Magneus Supreme by Entreq, so here goes. As you know, electricity, magnetism, and vibration are inseparable. Every alternating current produces magnetic fields and micro‑vibrations, which in turn generate further currents and noise. These interactions are subtle, but they accumulate, flattening imaging and robbing music of its emotional impact. This is where Enteq enters the frame,

The Magneus Supreme doesn’t filter or choke the current. Instead, it creates a calmer environment around the cable itself. It's like creating a perfect area around one point of your cables, a calm space, like the eye of a hurricane. The Magneus does something similar with the electromagnetic “weather” around your cables.

Like all Entreq units, there are no screws or any way in which you can enter the unit. So, what's inside?

Taken from the product description, inside are 'eight vertically-oriented semi-passive electromagnetic field transforming units eight vertically-oriented semi-passive electromagnetic field transforming units arranged in a precise circular formation made from a complex, reactive blend with varying magnetic and electrical properties, not just ferrite.

Geometry: Structured internal architecture designed to guide and shape fields, not just absorb them.
Function: Field transformation, not suppression. It’s passive, but purposeful and dynamic.

This layout creates what we refer to as a passive electromagnetic field chamber: a fully enveloping structure that enhances field shaping and suppresses unwanted interactions such as vagabond currents and high-frequency turbulence. The result is a system that sounds more grounded, more resolved, and more spacious.'

So, by reducing those stray currents and calming the turbulence, the system feels less strained. Music, with all it's nuaces and foibles carry more naturally, reverb tails stretch out instead of cutting short, and instruments sit in the mix with greater confidence.

The Magneus Range

T he Magneus range has three Configurations. The Supreme sits at the top of the Magneus line. All Magneus products influence the electromagnetic environment, but the Supreme is the most refined expression of the concept.

  • Magneus Signal – for network, USB and HDMI cables and analogue signal cables
  • Magneus Power – for power and speaker cables
  • Magneus Supreme – a circular array creating a full-field chamber for maximum effect

Like other Entreq units, the philosophy is simple: add them into the chain where they fit best. Placement is flexible, and the differences are subtle — but in a medium-high to high‑end system, these subtleties make a big difference, and they are highly necessary.

This echoes what I found in the Protectus review, and the connection and position of the unit in the chain were crucial to unlocking its full effect. If you love your system, it's a great way to optimise it.

Unboxing the Magneus

E ntreq’s presentation is consistent across their range. The Magneus arrives in a protective wooden box, like all their major units. It's carefully wrapped, with the etched logo front and centre. The weight is reassuring, being just shy of 2 kg, the finish is beautifully tactile, and the craftsmanship is unmistakable. It feels like a piece of audio furniture as much as a technical device. But, you must admit, it's a bit of an odd-looking thing.

The dimensions of the Magneus Supreme are great, not too big to place behind loudspeakers or near the wall inlet.

  • Length: 80 mm
  • Width: 200 mm
  • Height: 240 mm
  • Opening size (Ellipsis W x H): 55 mm x 65 mm

Connecting the Magneus

I nstallation is straightforward. I found that the power cables and speaker cables gave the biggest yield. You simply thread your power or speaker cables through the hole and switch on, it's that simple. Once it's threaded through, it forms its electromagnetic chamber. No power draw, no complex wiring — just careful positioning. From there, it passively shapes the environment, letting the system breathe.

Wow! - Is it as simple as that? Well, yes, and no. I took my time with the Magneus and found that threading a distribution bar cable, opposed to just the preamp and/or power amp cables, worked much better. I guess this would make sense, as many sources are getting the full treatment. But I also found that placing the Magneus closer to the power inlet end of the cable worked best.

Then there were the speaker cables. Threading them through the Magneus closer to the loudspeakers, or in my case, the external crossovers, worked much better than midway or nearer the amplifier.

As previously mentioned, I also tried the magneus with signal cables, for example, the pre-power cables and my DAC connections. The result was even more subtle, but I found that it did have an effect. Maybe you can try this and confirm it to me either way?

As with other Entreq units, the key is experimentation. You add them into the chain where they make the most sense for your system. You can add one on each channel of your speaker cables or use multiple ones on your mains. So, like I described in the Protectus review, it’s about finding the right place.

The central opening is a good size, easy enough to fit Shuko, Furutech IEC, standard, and more heavy-duty UK 3-pin plugs.

The Sound

W ith the Magneus Supreme in place, I let the system settle and then moved through records I know inside out. The changes are refinements. But those refinements mattered. They built into something that felt calmer, more confident, and more musically alive.

Creating these notes with certain albums was time-consuming, simply because of the placement of the Magneus. So I had to do three sets of notes and then look back on each to find the most matching outcomes. Here are my truncated notes:

Lou Reed – Berlin (MFSL 2024 repress)
This pressing already has weight and atmosphere, but the Magneus added a sense of poise. Reed’s voice carried more fragility, sitting in the mix with sharper breath and presence. The orchestral swells in “Lady Day” rose with greater authority, the strings had smoother decay, and the quieter passages felt steadier, less strained. It was as if the haze had been lifted — the bleak narrative gained extra emotional punch, and the album’s intimacy became more tangible.

Curtis Mayfield – Superfly
Here, the Magneus showed its grip on rhythm. The bass lines locked in tighter, kick drums had heavier attack, and the horns cut through with cleaner edges. “Freddie’s Dead” carried more propulsion, Mayfield’s falsetto floating above the groove with clarity. The funk textures felt more anchored, each instrument occupying its rightful space. The groove wasn’t just heard — it was felt, with a drive that made the whole album breathe differently.

Scientist – The Best Dub Album in the World
Dub is all about space, and the Magneus Supreme opened it up. Echoes stretched further, reverb tails smoothed out, and bass drops landed with deeper control. On “Dance of the Vampires,” the layering of effects became more holographic — delays and filters floated in their own pockets of air. The turbulence that often blurs dub’s soundscapes was calmed, leaving a presentation that was more resolved, immersive, and hypnotic.

Pulp – More
Modern production can sound dense with that old 90's style brickwall, bish-bash-bosh production, no subtleties, but in this case, Pulp did a great job, and the Magneus Supreme gave it even 'More' shape. Jarvis Cocker’s vocals had sharper breath definition, guitars carried texture without harshness, and the rhythm section gained drive. Bass lines were articulate, highs smoothed out, and the soundstage expanded. Instruments locked into place, and the whole presentation felt more confident. It didn’t change the album’s character — it simply let it unfold with greater clarity and emotional impact.

Overall Listening Impressions

A cross all these albums, the Magneus Supreme delivered a consistent theme: subtle refinements that accumulate into profound subtle improvements. Bass gained authority, midrange clarity opened up, highs smoothed out, and the soundstage expanded. More importantly, the emotional impact of the music was increased.

Reed’s fragility, Mayfield’s groove, Scientist’s spatial play, and Pulp’s energy and textures all felt more alive, less strained, and more coherent. Like the Protectus, the Magneus isn’t about huge differences. It’s about calm. It’s about letting the system show what it can really do once the background noise is tamed. The differences are subtle, but, yes... highly necessary.

Conclusion

T he Magneus Supreme is about refinement. It’s about taking away the strain, the haze, the turbulence, and letting the music unfold naturally. In systems particularly sensitive to grounding, its effect is even more pronounced, but the truth is that every system benefits once you calm the electromagnetic chaos.

The Magneus Supreme is best understood as part of a chain. You add it where it fits, you let it settle, and you listen. The differences are subtle, but they are highly necessary in a good system. Bass gains authority, mids open up, highs smooth out, and the soundstage expands. More importantly, the emotional impact of the music is restored.

Entreq’s philosophy has always been about chasing the hidden problems most listeners don’t even realise are there. The Magneus Supreme is another piece of that puzzle. It doesn’t change your system’s character — it lets your system show what it can really do once the background noise is tamed.

The Magneus Supreme can be used not just on it's own, if you have other Entreq products, this will fit in very nicely indeed and enhance your system even further.

The Magneus is highly recommended for those who value refinement. Like many of the Entreq products, once you’ve lived with them for a while, especially the Magneus Supreme, you won’t want to hear your system without it.
